While at Wieden + Kennedy I received a print out of several NBA legends illustrated. I was given the freedom to do whatever I wanted. I didn't do anything... This piece never went anywhere and was intended only as a wild pitch for Nike Basketball. At the time I had other obligations to attend to.

Fast forward two and a half years later, I was perusing my old hard drive and came upon the illustration. I decided I needed to create something of it since I only recently started to enjoy following and watching the sport.

I gave a lot of thought as to what could happen with this and how I could expand the illustrations into something bigger. I came to the idea of using the illustrations to inspire. Since everyone has their favorite NBA star, it was fitting to use all of them collectively to create LEGENDS. Moving forward, the idea was to incorporate the illustrations into the NikeID system and allow anyone to place their favorite player(s) on their Hyperdunks or Air Jordans.

Using Clarendon I placed each player into the letterforms making sure that each individual had weight and were, in most instances, recognizable. I tried not to show favoritism but I'm sure Jordan, Bryant and James are in there more often than others.
